Lansing, Ill. – Chicago Southland Convention and Visitors Bureau was instrumental in bringing two national competitive events to the Chicago Southland in 2016. The STIHL TIMBERSPORTS – U.S. Pro & Collegiate Championships was held at the Tinley Park Convention Center in Tinley Park, IL and the U.S. Log Rolling Open was hosted by Centennial Park in Orland Park, IL. These events were submitted by the Chicago Southland CVB to SportsEvents Magazine, as sporting events to watch.
Sport event professionals were asked to nominate sports events that they believe made a memorable impression and earned the right to be a Sports Event to Watch in 2017. Nominations were received from readers throughout the year; the top picks were selected based on results from an online voting system. These two national events were selected and featured in the January 2017 issue of SportsEvents.
“With thousands of sporting events across the nation each year, it takes something special to stand out,” said John Rezell, SportsEvents executive editor. “These events have shown they deserve to be honored for setting a high standard.”
Jim Garrett, President/CEO of the Chicago Southland CVB stated “These two national events were attracted to the Chicago Southland because of the services we provide, outstanding venues and our centralized geographic location. Sports tourism is big business and the economic impact of these and other sporting events are significant. Our region offers a variety of excellent sporting venues, and the CSCVB will continue to aggressively market and sell our region as a sports destination.”
