Student Educational Tour
- 9:00 a.m. - 10:30 a.m.: Lake Katherine Nature Preserve - Palos Heights
Students will love the four-tiered man made waterfall and be awed in the butterfly garden at the 158-acre Lake Katherine Nature Preserve. This nature preserve also includes a 20-acre lake, wetland restoration project, forested areas and prairies along the Calumet-Sag Canal. *Educational programs can be arranged for all age groups. Approximate drive time: 15 minutes - 10:45 a.m. - 12:15 p.m.: The Patio Restaurant - Bridgeview
After working up an appetite at the nature preserve, your students will enjoy the "The Best Barbeque ribs in the Chicagoland Area'. The Patio Restaurant is known for their thick, meaty baby back pork ribs cooked in their special seasoning and smothered in their rich tangy barbeque sauce. Students can also dine on soups, salads or burgers. The restaurant offers a casual dining area or fast convenient carry out service. Approximate drive time: 25 minutes - 12:45 p.m. - 3:30 p.m.: Argonne National Laboratory - Argonne
Students will stretch their minds on the 2-½ hour tour through a leading scientific research facility. Argonne National Laboratory's research falls into four broad categories: Basic Science, Scientific Facilities (Advanced Photon Source, Intense Pulsed Neutron Source, Tandem Linear Accelerator System and other facilities), Energy Resources, and Environmental Management. There is also an information center complete with mini exhibits on the activities of the facility. *Students must be 15 years of age or older. Approximate drive time: 25 minutes - 4:00 p.m. - 4:30 p.m.: Will County Historical Society Museum - Lockport
For a change of pace, your students will now travel back into the past. Costumed docents will guide students as they explore the history of the Illinois & Michigan Canal as well as the Will County area. Approximate drive time: 15 minutes - 5:00 p.m. - 6:30 p.m.: White Fence Farm - Lemont
"World's Greatest Chicken!" Since the early 1920's, White Fence Farm has been recognized throughout the Midwest for its outstanding Chicken dinners and famous relishes. After dinner, students can view the miniature train display, antique car museum and collections of antique dolls and hood ornaments. Approximate drive time: 35 minutes - 7:30/8:00 p.m.: Performance at a Fine & Performing Arts Center/Theatre
