The Chicagoland area is known for it’s amazing St. Patrick’s Day celebrations, and this year is no exception, despite celebrating a bit differently. Check out what’s going on in the Chicago Southland this St. Patty’s Day!

Get your Irish on with some authentic cuisine

Make the most out of your St. Patrick’s Day celebrations and leave the cooking to the pros! There are plenty of tasty Irish options available throughout the Chicago Southland.

Chuck’s Southern Comforts Cafe in Burbank will be offering a St. Patty’s Day Family Pack, available March 12-17. Each pack feeds 4-6 people and costs $64.99. Irish favorites like smoked corned beef, braised cabbage, potatoes, carrots and rye bread are all included and additional meat, sides or desserts are also available for purchase. Chuck’s will also be hosting St. Paddy’s Weekend Shenanigans on March 13 and 14, plus another celebration on March 17. Attendees can enjoy Chuck’s famous smoked corned beef dinner, served with red potatoes, carrots, braised cabbage and marbled rye bread. Plus, drink specials like the Irish Red Head and Fuzzy Leprechaun will be available for purchase. Each smoked corned beef dinner will be $19.99 and drink specials range from $4-$6.50. To celebrate St. Patrick’s, Doug’s Dogs in Oak Forest will be offering family meal packs for $25 each. Packs include lots of tasty options like cheeseburgers, fries, onion rings and, of course, hot dogs! Click here to see all of the available packages. Vintage Oak in Crete will be serving up a corned beef and Irish whiskey dinner on March 13. This dinner is by reservation only, so be sure to call 708-279-7127 to save your spot! Plus, until the end of the month, Vintage Oak will be participating in the Crete Area Chamber of Commerce’s “Pub & Grub” program, with drink and food specials!

Celebrate the anniversary of Lynnie Ques Airport Bar & Grill on St. Pat’s and beyond! Beginning on March 17, Lynnie Ques will be having a DJ, a Queen of Hearts raffle, entertainment and a party, plus Sunday Fun Day to help celebrate their 12th anniversary in business. Arrowhead Ales Brewing Company in New Lenox will be serving food specials for St. Patrick’s Day! Head over to Arrowhead Ales on March 12-14 and again on March 17 to take advatange of these delicious deals: Irish boxty (two potato pancakes with cheddar cheese, chopped corned beef, chives and horseradish sauce) for $8 or corned beef and cabbage (housemade beer-braised corned beef, poached cabbage, roasted potatoes and mustard cream sauce) for $16. 

Celebrate the luck of the Irish at Flossmoor Station Restaurant & Brewery with food and drink specials including: corned beef & cabbage, Rueben egg rolls, Rueben panini, $4 Coffee Glasgow Piper Scoth Ale Pints, $5 Snifters (Kratos Imperial Stout, B.A. Kratos, B.A. Eternal Flame Imperial Stout) and $5 Jameson Shots (Regular, IPA and Stout). Food specials will last through the weekend and are also available to go!

Winston’s Market (attached to Ashford House Restaurant) in Tinley Park is offering a St. Patrick’s Day package including Winston's corned beef, cabbage & carrots, boiled parslied potatoes, rye bread, butter, horseradish and mustard. Choose from a package that serves five for $75 or a package that serves 10 for $150. This St. Patrick’s Day special will be available for the entire month of March. Stop by Jenny’s in Chicago Ridge for some delicious corned beef, prepared by Chef Jorge! Choose between corned beef and cabbage, a Reuben sandwich or corned beef on rye. Each meal comes with a tasty side. Plus, Jenny’s will also have drink specials, including pints of Guinness and Jameson coffee for $6 each. 

As always, there are several local spots perfect for celebrating St. Patrick’s Day year-round. Check out J.J. Kelley’s in Lansing and The Carraig Irish Pub at Chicago Gaelic Park to find Irish-inspired eats every day of the year. 

Drink a wee bit o’ beer

You can’t celebrate St. Pat’s without a beer! Grab your Guinness but be sure to also check out these local breweries offering special beers.

Stop by 350 Brewing Company in Tinley Park for some beer this St. Patrick’s Day! 350 will be selling 4-packs of their special release Shamrock Shake City, a peppermint milkshake IPA. This is a creamy and smooth brew packed with a peppermint punch. Hurry in because supplies are limited!

 

 

Blue Island Beer Company will be bringing back their Irish red ale, It’s Been a Grip. This beer will be available exclusively at Blue Island Beer Company beginning on March 6. Cabbage Bash is back and just like last year, you can bash a cabbage for charity! This year will benefit NIVA (National Indepentdent Venue Association) with cabbage provided by County Fair Foods and leftovers served to the animals at Fulcrum Farms. Food will be available as well as fresh cans of It’s Been A Grip Irish Red. COVID-19 protocols including mask wearing and social distancing will be practiced.

Hickory Creek Brewing Company in New Lenox is celebrating all month long with different beers. Hickory Creek currently has five black beers on tap. Patrons who order four of them in a flight will receive $1 off the regular price. There are a variety of beers to choose from, including Stouty McStout-Face, Hickory Creek’s dry Irish stout. Additionally, their Irish red ale, Danny Boy, will be on tap!

You're in “luck” with these fun events

This St. Patrick’s Day make plans to attend an event in the Chicago Southland! There are plenty of virtual and in-person events to choose from.

Bring the wee ones over to Lake Katherine Nature Center & Botanic Gardens in Palos Heights for a St. Patrick’s Day celebration. This family program is perfect for children ages 5-10 and costs $10 per child. Kids will be able to create potato stamp art, participate in a scavenger hunt and enjoy a special treat. On March 6, head to Oak Forest for the annual Oak Forest Fleadh. This year’s theme is Fleadh Around Town and features some exciting new changes, including a virtual 5k that can be completed any time until March 17. The Oak Forest Park District will be hosting Leprechaun Family Activities including games, crafts, concessions and hot cocoa. Plus, don’t miss the parade at 11:00! Tinley Park will be hosting a few different St. Pat’s events on March 7. First, get your blood pumping by joining the Running O’ the Green 8k! Beginning at 8:00 AM, groups of 50 racers will take off every 15 minutes. The first 550 registered participants will receive a free t-shirt! Wind down from your run by visiting the Vogt Visual Arts Center from 11:30 AM – 1:00 PM for a spot of Irish tea. Festive decorations, music and traditional Irish goodies will be available to enjoy. More information on this event can be found here.

Enjoy a lunchtime Zoom webinar on March 14 presented by the Forest Preserve District of Will County! This free event, Irish in the Industries, explores the stories of Irish people who helped develop the area, as well as why they decided to settle in the Chicagoland region. This program is recommended for ages 16 and up, and registration is required. Click here for more information and to register. 

Nature lovers will enjoy St. Pat’s Charming Snakes, another free webinar hosted by the Forest Preserve District of Will County on March 17. This virtual event will teach attendees about local snakes and learn how important they are to the area’s ecosystem. Registration for this event is required. Jamo’s Live in Mokena will be hosting a Pre-Saint Patrick’s Day Party on March 14. Partygoers can enjoy classic Irish drinks, like Guinness or Jameson, and some delicious Irish food as well, like a Rueben sandwich or corned beef and cabbage. Click here for more information.

Seniors are invited to get in the spirit with Orland Township’s St. Patrick’s Day Luncheon on March 18. This luncheon will take place at the Orland Chateau, located at 14500 South LaGrange Road in Orland Park. Meals cost $20 per resident and $22 per non-resident. Enjoy a classic meal of corned beef and cabbage. Lunch will be served from 11:30 AM – 2:00 PM, plus entertainment will be provided by a local Irish musician! Tickets can be purchased at the Orland Township office.
