Enjoy Classic Corned Beef and More at Bergstein's NY Deli

If you have ever found yourself craving the staples of a Jewish deli, you'll need to make plans for a stop at Bergstein's NY Deli in Homewood. Formerly located in Chicago Heights, the deli relocated almost a year ago to their current spot on Martin Avenue, just off Ridge Road in downtown Homewood. 

You'll find lox here. And matzo ball soup. And pastrami. And whitefish. And bagels. And many other deli sandwiches, salads, soups, parmesans, breakfast sandwiches and more. 

The place is owned by a New York transplant who opened the deli in response to the small number of places in the Chicago area where you could get the full deli experience. The menu includes family recipes and customer favorites. The website even states that if they don't have your favorite deli item, they'll do their best to find it. 

The staff there are super friendly, the place is inviting and clean. Between the atmosphere and the food, you know it's going to be a comforting meal that will leave you content. This was my first time at the new location - and I'd only visited the Chicago Heights location once or twice before, so I haven't had a chance to try much of the menu. I brought home some salads, which I enjoyed. But, anytime I visit a Jewish deli, my go to is a corned beef on rye with lots of yellow mustard. Sandwiches come in two sizes - the regular (which has a quarter pound of meat) and the big (which has a half pound). Next time I'll go for the "big" sandwich and make two meals out of it. The big, corned beef sandwich was $17 compared to $12 for the regular. It came with a side (I picked potato salad) and a pickle.
