Pay a Visit to the Chicago Southland’s Newest Craft Brewery

The word “brewery” may conjure up thoughts of small, dimly lit tasting rooms where you sip on draft creations bellied up to a bar where there may be a bowl of popcorn or a light snack of pre-packaged pretzels as the only food option. But breweries have come a long way in recent years, and you’ll find some varied examples in the Chicago Southland.

The newest brewery in the Chicago Southland, Homewood Brewing Company is a bright, welcoming gathering space with not only expertly-crafted beers on draft, but also an upscale menu of comfort food and scratch-made Creole-inspired specialties. It’s walls are adorned with local art. A set of arcade games sits on the second floor next to a scenic rooftop featuring a mural of the late rapper Jarad Higgins, also known as Juice WRLD.

The talented rapper hailed from Homewood and his family aimed to honor him in this hospitality endeavor. His mother, Carmela Williams, is co-owner of the business with two partners, her son Brian Williams and Executive Chef Robert Lauderdale.

You’ll find about 16 of their own beers on tap, ranging from creative brews like Hazeologist, a 6.2 ABV hazy IPA with hints of citrus, berry and sweet fruit, Love Dragon, a wine barrel-aged farmhouse ale with a tart flavor and notes of passionfruit and dragon fruit and Trapper Keeper, a 10,3 ABV Belgian Tripel using clove and coriander.

The food menu is just as creative with upscale sharable and entrees. An in-house smoker is utilized to infuse homemade sausages, and a charcuterie board is something you should definitely try when you visit. Season ingredients are sourced locally when possible.
