Get a Taste of Ireland in the Chicago Southland

In mid-March, the green garb goes on and we all celebrate like jolly little leprechauns. Whether there’s Irish in your DNA or not, it’s a fun time of year to explore all things related to the Emerald Isle. You’ll find several venues and eateries where you can get a taste of Irish cuisine, music and culture. Here are a few:
All Ireland Trivia Night
Chicago Gaelic Park, Oak Forest
March 6
Kick off the St. Patty’s Day festivities with the Gaelic Park Players' All Ireland Trivia Night. Adopt a county name for your team and compete for a cash prize, trophy and bragging rights.
The Lyric Theater, Blue Island
March 7
Renowned singer/songwriter Derrick Procell will deliver a memorable performance embodying the essence of folk, rock, jazz and blue-eyed soul artist Van Morrison, a native of Belfast. Supported by the band Soundtracks of a Generation, his tribute to this living legend is a must-see for all Van Morrison enthusiasts.
Chicago Gaelic Park, Oak Forest
March 7
Don't miss this performance by The Whistlin' Donkeys at Chicago Gaelic Park. The musical group hails from County Tyrone and has been performing together since 2011. Known for their unique blend of traditional Irish music and Celtic rock influences, they have gained a strong following in Ireland and around the world, creating their own distinctive sound that will have you whistling, stomping and clapping throughout the show.
Dorothy Menker Theater, Palos Hills
March 8
Danú, has been one of the top traditional Irish ensembles since 1995. The group's roots span several counties and their talents span many instruments. You'll be captivated by their incredible musicianship on instruments like the flute, fiddle and button accordion, along with stunning vocals in both Irish and English.
Chicago Gaelic Park, Oak Forest
March 8
Attend a mass at 9:30 a.m. followed by a traditional Irish breakfast in the Emerald room. The Irish breakfast includes scrambled eggs, sausage, bacon, white pudding, black pudding, milk, orange juice, coffee and tea. Cost is $15 per adult and $10 per child.

March 8
Doors open at noon for a full day of South Side Irish fun. There will be entertainment in each room for the whole family to enjoy, along with a performance by the Doonaree Pipe Band. Food will be available for purchase and thee will be a cash bar, face painting and balloon animals for the kids.
Flossmoor Station Restaurant & Brewery, Flossmoor
March 14-17
Celebrate the luck of the Irish at Flossmoor Station with food specials, including their famous Corned Beef & Cabbage, along with drink specials and green beer!
Chicago Gaelic Park, Oak Forest
March 15
It's an Irish celebration all year long at this cultural venue, but March is extra special. Don't miss out on this big day full of Irish revelry. Each room will have live entertainment and there will be activities for the kids. Get your fill of Irish grub and brews, as well.

March 20
Simple Things is a Kerry-based folk/pop trio, featuring vocalist/rhythm guitarist Dylan, bass guitarist and backing vocalist Shane and accordion/keyboard player Kealan Cahill. The group brings a fresh new flavor to pop music, with a traditional Irish influence.
In addition to the scheduled events above, take time to explore area eateries for some delicious bites of Irish-inspired cuisine at Fox's Pizza & Irish Pub, Porter Cullen's Irish Pub & Restaurant, The Carriag Irish Pub, The Irish Patriot and J. J. Kelley's Restaurant & Pub.
