It combines historical tours, cultural insights, art, and culinary experiences, with accommodation arranged at hotels in the Chicago Southland.
Day One: Born in Silence
articipants begin with an Underground Railroad tour in Crete, visiting verified safe houses and sites linked to fugitive slaves’ escape routes, emphasizing local abolitionist efforts. The day continues with a guided exploration of the Pullman Historic District, showcasing its transformation from a company town to a revitalized historic neighborhood, including visits to the Greenstone Church, Market Square, and Hotel Florence. Meals are optional and not included in the tour price.
Day Two: Built to Triumph
The focus shifts to Chicago’s Black Metropolis, exploring African American heritage through stories of resilience from the Civil War to the Civil Rights and Black Arts Movements. The tour highlights influential figures such as Jean Baptiste Point DuSable and President Barack Obama, including a visit to the Obama Presidential Center in Hyde Park, which features exhibits, art installations, and panoramic views. Meals are optional.
Day Three: Exceeded Beyond Limits
The final day celebrates Pope Leo XIV, Chicago’s first American pope, with a tour of his childhood home, local parishes, and landmarks significant to his early life. The experience includes cultural stops such as a hot dog or ChiSox Bar & Grill, and an optional dinner at Gaelic Park with entertainment. Meals are not included, and the itinerary may be adjusted based on group needs.
