Beyond the Book, A Literary Experience (18063 Dixie Highway, Homewood) - This independent bookstore founded by local scholar Tenia Davis is more than just a place to purchase books, it’s a vibrant community hub dedicated to promoting literacy, learning and connection. The space features workshops, a podcast room, and book clubs for teens and children, along with creative events like interactive mystery nights.
Book Bar (19060 Everett Boulevard, Mokena) – Book Bar combines lattes and literature at this cozy bookstore-coffee shop combo. In the morning, grab some fresh-baked pastries and hot java, or stop over in the afternoon for shareable plates and book-themed cocktails before settling in to read your newest novel. Book club meetings, author signings and more are regularly hosted at Book Bar.
Bookie’s New & Used Books (10324 South Western Avenue, Beverly, Chicago) – Right over the Chicago Southland border, you will find Bookie’s New & Used Books, an independent shop that has been selling books on the South Side of Chicago for nearly 40 years. Both new and used books are available at this charming shop.
The Jolly Giraffe (116 Kansas Street, Frankfort) – Inspire the next generation of bookworms at this adorable giraffe-themed shop, catering to the kiddos. Here you’ll find frequent family-friendly events, including book club meetings, arts and crafts, holiday-themed fun, and even in-store author readings and signings. Don’t worry, parents.
