Indoor Entertainment in the Chicago Southland

When the weather turns from long sunny, warm days to crisp, autumn days with less sunshine, it doesn’t mean the fun is over. It just means you might need to take the party inside. For those who have been enjoying outdoor concerts and festival shows over the past several months, there are still ways to enjoy those vibes - but int the comfort of the indoors.

November 1-2, 7-9
Young Frankenstein
Moraine Valley Community College, Dorothy Menker Theatre, Palos Hills
This musical of Mel Brooks’ comedy combined with Mary Shelley’s classic monster tale will captivate audiences with its hilarity. Grandson of the infamous Victor Frankenstein, Frederick Frankenstein inherits his family's estate in Transylvania. With the help of a hunchbacked sidekick, Igor, and a leggy lab assistant, Inga, Frederick finds himself in the mad scientist shoes of his ancestors bringing to life a creature to rival his grandfather’s.

An Irish Heartbeat: A Musical Tribute to Van Morrison 
Chicago Gaelic Park, Oak Forest
Enjoy the music of Van Morrison, who as a child in Belfast fell in love with his father’s music collection that included Hank Williams, Muddy Water and Jimmie Rodgers. That influence led him to become a traveling musician at 13. The evening will feature singer/songwriter/harp player Derrick Procell backed by a 10-piece band playing hits from Morrison’s 55-year career.

GovState Theatre and Performance Studies Presents; Anon(ymous)

Catch this production during its 4-day run about a young refugee named Anon who searches the U.S. for his family, encountering kind and cruel strangers in this adaptation of Homer’s The Odyssey.

Simply Three is the electrifying trio of Julian, Nick, and Zack, who have been rocking stages since 2010. Known for their high-energy performances, they blend classical and contemporary music that includes hits from Adele to Michael Jackson in a way that leaves audiences wanting more.

A Beautiful Noise: The Neil Diamond MusicalCadillac Palace Theater, Chicago
A Beautiful Noise is the uplifting true story of how a kid from Brooklyn became a chartbusting, show-stopping American rock icon. With 120 million albums sold, a catalogue of classics like “America,” “Forever in Blue Jeans,” and “Sweet Caroline,” an induction into the Songwriters and Rock and Roll Halls of Fame, a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award, and sold-out concerts around the world that made him bigger than Elvis, Neil Diamond’s story was made to shine on Broadway-and head out on the road across America.

November 22
Illinois Philharmonic Orchestra: Night Moves - The Planets, E.T. and Star Trek
Governors State University Center for Performing Arts, University Park
The nighttime sky will never look the same after a concert of this nature. Climb aboard the audio version of the U.S.S. Enterprise as IPO takes you on an auditory adventure with Star Trek Through The Years (arranged by Calvin Custer), a compilation of some of the series’ most notable musical pieces. John Williams’ E.T. Adventures on Earth contributes to this out of this world evening, as does the closing number, Gustav Holst’s The Planets which takes the audience on a journey throughout all the known planets of the Solar System seen from Earth at the time of its writing, and their corresponding astrological character. A video accompaniment with visuals by Adrian Wyard adds to this other worldly experience.

November 22

Bring the family to experience joy, grandeur, fanfare and seasonal favorites. The ever-popular Gargoyle Brass along with organist Mark Sudeith, will join the Chorale in this festive Christmas concert featuring holiday favorites, and sing-alongs
