Rauner, Chairman of Choose Chicago and a principal of private equity at venture capital firm GTCR, was named the 2008 Philanthropist of the Year for the Chicago Association of Fundraising Professionals. A Chicago native, he has served as Chairman of Choose Chicago since July 2010. Rauner received a degree in economics, summa cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa, from Dartmouth College and an M.B.A. from Harvard University.

Were excited to have Bruce Rauner as the keynote speaker for our Annual Meeting, said Jim Garrett, President/CEO of the Chicago Southland CVB. His experience in tourism, economic development, and job creation make his thoughts valuable as we begin our new strategic plan which will drive the hospitality industry of the Chicago Southland down a path of increased economic development and more heads in beds.

The Annual Meeting on October 17 starts off with a reception and networking at 11:30 a.m. followed by a luncheon and program at Noon. The event concludes promptly at 1:30 p.m.

Garrett will report on the programs and accomplishments of the Chicago Southland CVB during the past fiscal year and the new strategic plan that was adopted by the CVBs Board of Directors. He will also announce the winners of the CVBs annual hospitality awards and the Chicago Southland Stars of the Industry Awards that recognizes outstanding hotel employees in six separate categories.
