FRENCH FEVER

By published February 09, 2024

The 2024 Summer Olympics are coming, and buzz is beginning over the event taking place this summer in Paris, France. And as the excitement builds over the competitions between the elite athletes from each county, my mind also wanders to food and all the good grub that the host country has to offer. Quench that French fever with a visit to Homewood’s La Voûte Restaurant.

La-Voute-martini-oysters.jpgThe Chicago Southland has a cute little gem of a bistro in downtown Homewood that has a menu inspired by French cuisine. So, if you’re looking for a little taste of France as you anticipate watching the Olympics, you’ll want to stop by La Voûte Restaurant, which is located inside La Banque Hotel, a boutique hotel that is in a historic, converted bank building.

“La banque” is French for “the bank” and “la voûte” is French for “the vault.” La Voûte gets its name for the bank vault that is situated within the dining room—that happens to have been signed by J. Edgar Hoover, then-Director of the FBI. The atmosphere offers a bit of luxury and transports you far from the south suburbs.

Even the more Midwestern menu items are elevated with a French flair, from sandwiches to pasta to salads. You’ll find seasonal specialties that highlight the region’s bounty and will have you humming “La Vie en Rose” with every bite.

Favorites of mine have been their meat and cheese board with a variety of meats, pate, artisan cheeses, pickled veggies and house made jams, called the “Marvelous First Course of Meat and Cheese” and the La Voûte Burger with gruyere cheese, bacon, caramelized onion and roasted garlic aioli on a brioche bun.

La-Voute-burger.jpgLa Voûte is a place to keep on your radar if you are an avid weekend bruncher. Choose from their traditional eggs benedict, crème brûlée French toast, traditional French omelette, “Steak & Eggs & Frites,” shrimp and grits, quiche Florentine and more.

Keep an eye on social media for daily specials, seasonal items and foodie events, like their upcoming romantic Valentine’s Day dinner featuring live music and food specials.

If you get started now, you might be able to make your way through their entire menu before the Summer Olympics begin! Bon appétit!
