Santa Claus is making his way to the Village of Oak Lawn for the annual Santa on the Green celebration. Santa, Mrs. Claus and Frosty will make their grand appearances. Bring a camera because the crew will be available for photos. A special elf stilt-walker will also join the cast of characters, and a trolley will carry families from the Village Green to the Oak Lawn Train Station. Carolers featuring the Sward and Kolmar School choirs will sing in the tent on the Village Green. A Shop Oak Lawn Kick Off Party will occupy the Metra Station, hosted by the Oak Lawn Chamber of Commerce in conjunction with Santa on the Green.

The Lockport Township Park District is seeking organizations to participate in our Annual Festival of Trees contest. Only 15 organizations' applications will be accepted to participate in this event. The organizations that are selected to participate will be assigned a 6 ft. pre-lit artificial Christmas tree to decorate in the theme of their choice. All the decorated Christmas trees will be on display at the Gladys Fox Museum for the community to judge during the Christmas in the Square Event on Nov. 25 from 1pm-4:30pm. The winning organization will receive a monetary donation. The decorated Christmas trees will be given to local families. Applications available online at www.lockportpark.org. The night sky is filled with interesting objects to view throughout the fall and, with the earlier sunsets and cold, clear skies, it’s a great time to view them. This program will start indoors at the visitor center. Participants will learn how to use a star chart to find fascinating objects visible with the naked eye, binoculars or small telescopes. If skies are clear, telescopes and binoculars will be available for use. Access to the viewing area may require a short walk over uneven ground. During the ride to the “North Pole”, we will read the beloved story, The Polar Express. Also, Santa will visit with every good little girl and boy, and give a gift to them.
