Enjoy Live Outdoor Concerts in the Southland this Summer
By Loren Petrakis published July 01, 2019
When the weather warms up, the entertainment moves outdoors. There are plenty of opportunities this summer to enjoy live music outside in a variety of venues. The largest of them is Hollywood Casino Amphitheater in Tinley Park. Their season kicked off in the spring and continues into October with a full line-up of different genres and big-name artists. Upcoming shows include Heart, Sheryl Crow, Shinedown, Train, Alice Cooper, Wiz Khalifa, Brad Paisley, Florida Georgia Line, Nelly, Smashing Pumpkins, Slipknot, Comedy from the cast of Impractical Jokers, Kidz Bop Live, Jason Aldean, Kid Rock and more.
CD & Me in Frankfort is a scenic venue that hosts a number of weddings each year, but also has a schedule of inexpensive summer shows coming up. Tribute bands to Bruce Springsteen, Journey, Cher and the Eagles can be seen this summer with tickets priced at just $7 or $10. There will also be a performance August 15 by Maggie Speaks, one of the most popular cover bands in the Chicago area. Additional shows include Latin Satin Soul, River Road Trio, Final Say and more.
Lansing’s new Fox Pointe venue has a permanent stage and this season the village introduced the Wednesday Concert series. Popular local and regional musical groups will perform for free each week and whatever your musical tastes, you’ll find a concert for you. Coming up are shows by the Craw Puppies, Cadillac Groove, Cowboy Jukebox,
Gone 2 Paradise and more. Food vendors will be available on-site.
The Country Club Hills Theatre is another venue with a permanent stage, and they have a series of Saturday shows running this year. From the Master of Funk to Jazz and Blues to R & B to a Hispanic Heritage night, there are plenty of opportunities to get your groove on. They’ll close out the season with a symphony showcase of local high school bands.
The Village of New Lenox has a Triple Play Concert Series, which features an act each month of the summer, June, July and August. Tickets are available for Joan Jett and Kenny Loggins and you can find information on the Village page.
There are also several other municipalities that are offering outdoor summer concerts, most at no cost. Frankfort hosts Concerts on the Green on Sundays, Park Forest hosts Main Street Nights, Palos Park will have a Concert at the Cliff, Alsip has Concerts on the Green, Tinley Park has Thursdays in the Park and a Gazebo Jazz Night and Oak Lawn has a Summer Concerts on the Green line-up and Mokena offers Music and Movies in the park on Thursdays. Those are just a few of the opportunities for free municipally sponsored concerts.

The concert series opens Saturday, August 24 at Orland Park's 12-acre Centennial Park West located at Park Station Boulevard and Somerglen Lane. Tickets will be available online beginning June 24 at www.universe.com.
